FUT Esports opened VALORANT Champions Shanghai with a 2-0 victory over JD Gaming on September 27. The EMEA representative won its Ascent pick 13-1 after a perfect attacking half, then recovered from an 8-4 halftime deficit to take JD Gaming’s Summit pick 13-10. S0pp recorded 41 kills across the series, while KROSTALY led all players with a 1.39 rating.
Ascent established a margin that the final 2-0 score cannot fully show. FUT began on attack and won all 12 rounds of the first half. That removed every ordinary economic route for JD Gaming to stabilize: an isolated defensive round would have had to become a sequence immediately, yet FUT kept resetting the Chinese side before such a sequence could form.
JDG avoided a complete shutout after the side switch, but the map ended 13-1 in 34 minutes and 37 seconds. S0pp produced 20 kills on Jett and KROSTALY added 17 on Sova. JD Gaming’s entire five-player lineup combined for 24 kills. Those numbers describe a collective gap rather than one lost clutch or a single failed site hold.
The veto made the result more important. Ascent was FUT’s selection, so control there met the basic expectation of converting its preparation. A 12-0 attacking half did more: it gave the team a map lead without spending energy on a long finish and forced JD Gaming to answer on Summit, the map the home representative had chosen for itself.

Summit demanded a different kind of recovery
JD Gaming produced that answer during the first half of Summit. Starting on attack, it built an 8-4 lead and finally created the repeated pressure that had been missing on Ascent. BerLIN helped supply the more stable opening structure, while JDG reached halftime with four times as many rounds as it had collected across the entire first map.
FUT did not let the change in map shape become a change in series control. After switching to attack, the EMEA team won nine of the next 11 rounds. The 9-2 second half turned the 8-4 deficit into a 13-10 victory. Summit lasted 52 minutes and 19 seconds, nearly 18 minutes longer than Ascent, and required FUT to close a competitive map instead of simply protecting a huge lead.
That contrast is the central competitive value of the series. On Ascent, FUT dictated every phase from the beginning. On Summit, it absorbed JD Gaming’s strongest half and then solved the opponent’s defense. A sweep can hide those differences, but they matter for judging whether a team has only one prepared map or can respond when its first plan no longer produces an immediate advantage.
The final statistics also separate volume from efficiency. S0pp led the server with 41 kills and 309 average combat score, finishing 41/23/5 with a 1.34 rating. KROSTALY recorded fewer kills but the highest overall rating at 1.39, alongside a 34/18/6 line. Both players finished at least 16 kills above their deaths.
FUT received positive kill differentials from all four of its main fragging leaders: KROSTALY, s0pp, yetujey and xeus. SociablEE completed the series with 23 assists and an 84 percent KAST rate. The distribution is relevant because Summit could not be won by repeating the same early duels that broke Ascent; the comeback required enough surviving, trading and utility value to sustain nine attacking rounds.
JD Gaming’s best series rating belonged to BerLIN at 0.96. His 25 kills led the team, but no JDG player finished with a positive kill differential across both maps. The second-half defense on Summit was the missed opportunity. JDG had already done the difficult part by building an 8-4 lead, then converted only two defensive rounds while FUT moved from four to 13.
Group A now sends the teams to different tests
FUT advances to the Group A winners match against 100 Thieves. Both teams arrive after 2-0 opening victories, but that does not mean either has already secured a playoff berth. The winner of their next best-of-three qualifies; the loser moves to the group decider for one more opportunity.
JD Gaming meets T1 in the elimination match. T1 also lost 2-0, falling to 100 Thieves after leading at different points on Summit and Ascent. The matchup therefore joins two teams that showed recoverable sections in their openers but failed to convert them into a map. The loser leaves Champions, while the winner stays alive and reaches the decider.
For FUT, the useful evidence is broader than the 13-1 headline. The team demonstrated immediate preparation on its own pick and a complete second-half response on the opponent’s pick. For JD Gaming, Summit offers a clearer review than Ascent: the 8-4 attack showed a workable route, but the defense could not protect the advantage when FUT increased the pace and connected its trades.

FUT Esports earned a 2-0 start with two very different wins: a 13-1 rout on Ascent and a 13-10 comeback on Summit. KROSTALY posted the highest rating, while s0pp led the server with 41 kills. FUT now faces 100 Thieves for a playoff place, and JD Gaming meets T1 in an elimination match.
